Meet the Designers
Rachel Zhang
Rachel is a grade 11 student from Vancouver. The motif of Rachel's NYFW 2023 S/S collection is "Hope for the future." Rachel believes the future we look forward to is always delightful. As her own childhood memories are filled with happiness, she incorporated her childhood memories and symbolization to represent these concepts. For instance, she used drawings from childhood and pastel colours, and the butterflies in her collection symbolize hopefulness for the future and revival of the future. Throughout the design process, Rachel enjoyed exploring different materials for her designs, such as PVC and organza with childlike doodles. She hopes to be a fashion designer with her own brand and studio.

Philip Son
For Philip, fashion should portray the authenticity and wonder of his contemporaries. In NYFW S/S 2023 collection, he showcases five garments inspired by his interests in architecture, physics, the current socio-economic environments, and asian cultures, particularly Korean palaces and historical garments. He carefully reconfigured the silhouette and geometric lines from traditional Korean garments, Hanbook, to create garments for his generation. Aside from his fascination for architecture and physics, Philip is also an avid music lover. He currently attends University Hill Secondary School.

Angelina Liu
With an apocalyptic focus, Angelina explores the theme of survival through asymmetrical and unconventional patchworks. She was initially inspired by the famous words of P.T. Barnum: “There’s a sucker born every minute,” alluding to the use of dark humor in her work. Angelina likes filming and playing sports, and always tries to embrace changes in life, which gives her different perspectives in developing her work. She currently attends Crofton House School.
