Choose a Personal Direction

At this stage, students may begin concentrating on one area that particularly interests them.

Begin developing a recognizable body of work rather than producing unrelated individual paintings.

Strengthen Skills & Build a Body of Work

After completing foundational modules, students begin working on more developed pieces.

At this stage, projects become longer and more intentional. Students move beyond individual exercises and begin thinking about how several works can relate to one another.

Areas of development may include:

* More advanced observation and drawing

* Composition and visual hierarchy

* Colour development

* Paint handling and surface quality

* Creating stronger focal points

* Working from personal reference material

* Developing ideas from sketches into finished pieces

* Revisiting and improving previous work

* Understanding the difference between an exercise and a finished artwork
